For Insomnia
Insomnia (sleeplessness) is an inability to fall asleep, or stay asleep, or reach a level of sleep with restorative properties.
In the UK, it is estimated that a third of all adults experience episodes of insomnia. Montmorency cherries are one of the few known food sources of melatonin, a molecule produced in the brain’s pineal gland critical in regulating the sleep-wake cycle in humans.

Origins
Montmorency is a bright red tart cherry cultivar grown in the USA, Canada and parts of Europe and Asia.
Its name comes from the Montmorency region of France, where it once was a popular crop. The variety crossed the Atlantic over a hundred years ago and has become the biggest cherry variety in the USA.
These tart cherries have a long history of being used in bakery products, especially the ever-popular cherry pie! They are also enjoyed eaten as dried fruit and drank as cherry juice. You can read about why and how our founder, John, started bottling Montmorency cherry concentrate in our story.

Montmorency cherry superfood status
In recent decades, the humble Montmorency cherry has been hailed a superfood; a healthy addition to everyday diets and suitable for vegetarian and vegan lifestyles. And CherryActive is an easy and tasty way to get more Montmorency cherries in your diet!
Emerging science presented in The Montmorency Cherry Report shows they are rich in antioxidants and contain potent, naturally occurring phytonutrients, including anthocyanins and melatonin, which have been linked to many health benefits. Anthocyanins give the fruit its bright red colour and research studies have shown these to possess anti-inflammatory properties and deactivate harmful free radicals produced in abundance during exercise.
CherryActive in nutrition plans

Montmorency cherries contain significant levels of natural compounds, called anthocyanins.
Anthocyanins have been shown to possess anti-inflammatory properties, which can reduce the inflammatory response to intense or prolonged training regimes.
The result, as demonstrated by a number of research studies, is quicker muscle recovery and less soreness. That's why elite sportspeople and the everyday athlete or gym goer take CherryActive daily.
CherryActive locks in a good night’s sleep
In the UK it is estimated that a third of all adults experience episodes of insomnia – it’s more likely to affect women and occur with age. Lifestyle, hormones, environment and painful conditions like arthritis (causing inflammation) can also keep people awake or interrupt slumber, causing significant distress.
During crucial quality sleep, the body’s complex repair processes are most active, contributing to post-exercise recovery. However, exercise-induced insomnia can present as prolonged sleep onset latency (taking more than 30 minutes to fall asleep after lying down). Many athletes have low levels of circulating melatonin, which may be a cause, or contributor, to their sleep problems.
Several studies show that drinking Montmorency cherry juice can improve the quantity and quality of sleep - for athletes and anyone affected by insomnia.
Montmorency cherries are one of the few known food sources of melatonin, a molecule produced in the brain’s pineal gland critical in regulating the sleep-wake cycle in humans. CherryActive's anti-inflammatory and melatonin-rich properties may therefore play a part in aiding a good night’s sleep.
We’ve enhanced Montmorency cherries with magnesium, lavender and chamomile – all natural ingredients researched to improve sleep quality – to create CherryActive Sleep Formula capsules. Take two capsules half an hour before bed, as you wind down and switch off.
